Too Hungry

Soooo… last week I was leaving for the airport for DC after work. I wanted to make sure to get everything in before heading out of town so I scheduled a full day from 5am-5:30pm. I wanted to make sure to do something for myself amongst all of my clients so I also managed to squeeze in a yoga class. The only thing I forgot to make time for was food! I did eat ½ a gluten-free sandwich before yoga & the other ½ after class… but it certainly wasn’t enough. Not to mention, the yoga class was hard! I know I burned way more than what was in that ½ a sandwich.

By the time I got home, it was time to leave for the airport. When we got to the airport, I was starving! I try to never let myself get that hungry but today I just did not make it a priority to eat! Oops! At the airport I ate 3 little tacos (ate only 2 corn tortillas instead of 6! They always give you too many) and a cup of rice & beans but I was still hungry! My sweet tooth started to kick in as well so I gave in and treated myself to cheese & caramel popcorn mix from “Nuts on Clark” - if you haven’t experienced this, you are missing out! I digress...

I did not realize until I sat down on the plane, that I forgotten my winter coat! Did I mention I was on my way to DC? It’s still cold out there! The worst part was that I couldn’t even remember where I could have left it. Maybe at the TSA/security? It was my own fault. I had neglected to fuel my body properly all day and it had a large effect on my brain.

When we landed in DC, I realized that I was also missing my cosmetics bag with my contacts and all of my make-up. And I am basically blind without my contacts! All of the sweet women on the plane and at customer service were very sympathetic, but that wasn’t going to get all of my stuff to DC. At the end of the day, it really was my own fault and I know better! But, we all know that life just happens sometimes. It’s funny how we try to push ourselves to the limit and when our body isn’t in agreement it basically just says NO. I learned my lesson the hard way. Luckily I did pack extra contact in another bag and my husband came to the rescue with the winter gear. Being who he is, he had packed me extra warm clothes and even a winter coat! We were going for the March for our Lives rally and he wanted to be over-prepared for the weather. What a sweetheart!

Moral of the story…. Fuel your body so that it can fuel your brain! If you’re like me and you’re always on the go with a full schedule, always throw healthy snacks and a bottle of water in your bag - my favorite go-to’s are cashews, almonds, gluten-free crackers, and fruit. Don’t forget these when you’re traveling too! There’s nothing worse than being hungry on a plane and you never know when you’re going to get delayed. Plus the snacks at the airport are outrageous! I picked up a bag of almonds once and it cost me $14. Here’s to healthy snacking… and not forgetting to eat!
